Salamanca is not only famous for being world heritage city, but in the last 10 years it is getting more and more famous for its graffitied.
Let´s go and pay a visit. You have to go to the neighbourhood called Barrio Oeste. It is just outside the old part of Salamanca, not even a 10 minutes walk. This area has quite a history but we are now talking about what is going there in this time.
It all started with the enthousiasme of the association ZOES (Zona Oeste) in 1977. Bare in mind that in those days, having an organisation was still illegal, so they would meet in secret. They started organising a small flee market which bit by bit grew to what we call now Rastro. Now a days this rastro is celebrate in the area of Aldeahuela in Salamanca.
The association ZOES got together with collective LemARTE. Their policy is to give young artist the opportunity to express their art. The urban art began in June 2013, a group of 25 artists started this project with the purpose of “bringing art closer to the street, taking it out of the galleries and confronting it with the neighbours”.
These associations sought artists to carry out the works in this square in Salamanca, specifically students from the Faculty of Fine Arts. They use blind walls, garage doors and even facades of apartment buildings for their art.
Come and join me to make a tour through this part of the city. It is like a bohemian part of the town. a lot of students are living here now and als good bars to have a drink. Just another way to experience Salamanca.
You can find graffitied from: Alex G Magic, Rubi Amanfu, medianeras, Pablo S. Herrero, Milu Correch and Nego among many others.
